Hello again! Today, an order I purchased from GameStop came in, so my day was just playing “new” video games and watching the FIFA World Cup final. I’ll briefly speak on the cup. It was an entertaining game, although I do wish it was closer, as Argentina really couldn’t keep up with Spain, and I think that hurt the game to the point where it went from what would’ve been a great game to simply an OK or good one.

In terms of the games I got, I got Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 4, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Star Wars Battlefront (2015), Star Wars Battlefront 2 (2017), Persona 5 Strikers, LA Noire, Metal Gear Solid V, and Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order. I have tried a bit of Halo 1, the Battlefronts, COD 4, and LA Noire today. Halo 1 I got mostly to play locally when I have friends over, so I just played through the first campaign mission for fun. The Battlefronts, while I have played on Xbox One, I got on PS4 due to that platforms larger playerbase, as I am a fan of those games. I had never actually played Call of Duty 4, and after trying the multiplayer, I really like this one. I will play it more. LA Noire I started as my first big singleplayer game I want to play through during the summer, which I’ll mix in with the other 3 singleplayer games and a few from my backlog. The investigations are very fun in that game. I look forward to the rest of it, and will write on my thoughts as I go.

I’m realizing the amount of time I want to sink into my Rock Band 4 review, for example, means it’ll take a lot more time than I originally thought. Hello again! In a way, today was one of my more productive days, as I read a book vs. doomscrolling for hours upon hours. I was intending on reading a chapter or two of Project Hail Mary, but got so into it that I read the entire second half (Chapter 15 to the end) in a single sitting. So here’s a few thoughts I have had on the book.

One thing I adored about the book is the tension at the book’s climax. While I think it has a climax a little early (happening around Chapters 19 and 20), those two chapters are so intense that they are some of the finest parts of the book. It feels like everything is going wrong, and Grace and Rocky are frantically doing everything they can to get out of it. Speaking of Grace and Rocky, the buddy dynamic the two characters they have is another element of the book that I love. It both adds an emotional core to the book and allows for the occasionally comedic relief of tension, which I think really helped the book.

I will for sure write a much fuller review in the coming few days once I’ve had a bit more to sit on it, but I did really enjoy the book! You should read it! Have a fantastic rest of your day.

This is a great one on Halo 2, both as an evolution of the first game and innovator for Xbox Live, along with a little bit of it’s impact. Enjoy this one! Hello everyone! Today I had a rather quiet day, where I just read a little, and played Rock Band. Rock Band is more relevant to today’s blog post: I realized that I had not unlocked any achievements on the first game. So I got some! I gave myself a little challenge, and that challenge was to get all 4 of the “Flawless” achievements. To unlock these, you have to 100% a song on expert difficulty.

The challenge itself was very fun. I started with bass, as it is the only one to have an added challenge, where you had to not only 100% a song, but do it with only up strums. It’s not a huge difficulty jump, and I used the song Something In the Way by Nirvana, both a favorite and a song not too bad in difficulty. I followed this with drums, which I admittedly cheesed. Nirvana’s song Polly (it was a great day to be a Nirvana fan) has a total of 4 notes on drums, so I just did that one. If it ever nags at me in the future, I’ll do it “for real.” Guitar was up third, and I used Stephen Colbert’s free DLC song Charlene for two reasons: first, it’s a funny song, and I was doing this at 2:00, so my brain cells needed something dumb. Secondly, the song is only 90 seconds, so I don’t have to worry about being 5 minutes into a 6 minute song and missing. Finally, I closed the challenge out with vocals, and just sung Something In the Way. I think I’ve FC’d a song on vocals on Rock Band 4, just not the first one. It was the easy one to end out with. Overall, it was a fun little challenge that took me about an hour. I would recommend if you ever get bored.
